The Atari 7800
As the last entry in Atari’s original line of home consoles, the 7800 is an oft-forgotten classic.
As the last entry in Atari’s classic line of home consoles (which includes the 2600 and 5200), the Atari 7800 was an attempt to both honor the past (it can play nearly all Atari 2600 games) and look to the future (it is considerably more powerful than its predecessors).
Unfortunately, the 7800 suffers a bit from its position in Atari history, overshadowed by the colossal success of the 2600 and drowned out by the legendary failures of the Atari Jaguar. Nevertheless, the 7800 is a sleek, attractive system with some innovative features and a small library of fun games and the ability to play nearly a thousand Atari 2600 games too.
