Abstract Conference 2026

  • SFJAZZ 201 Franklin Street San Francisco, California, 94102 United States (map)

The Retro Roadshow is heading to Abstract!

We’re very honored that Convex has arranged for a special Retro Roadshow exhibition at the inaugural Abstract Conference on September 2nd, 2026!

Abstract is a conference for people who care about the art of thoughtful, human-centric software design, so we wanted to do something really special to lean into those themes. With that in mind, we’re exhibiting three of the most remarkable and relevant artifacts from our collection:

  • Apple Lisa: the first mass produced computer to use a Graphical User Interface (“GUI”) and mouse.

    • We’ll be exhibiting our Lisa alongside a vintage dot matrix printer so Abstract attendees can design and print their own keepsakes on this rare and groundbreaking computer.

  • NeXTcube: the first computer developed by Steve Jobs’s NeXT Inc., the NeXTcube represented the absolute cutting edge of desktop workstation design in the late 1980s. The NeXTcube ran the NeXTSTEP operating system which later became the foundation for Mac OS X, which itself evolved into macOS, iOS, iPadOS, etc.

    • Since this was the machine used to create the Web, we’ll be bringing our NeXTcube online so Abstract attendees can enjoy a true “Web 1.0” experience, including a brand-new oldschool website we built specifically for this event.

  • Vectrex: perhaps the most unique gaming console ever released, the Vectrex is the only home gaming system to ever include a built-in CRT display, and the first console to offer analog joystick controls.

    • Our Vectrex will be showcasing a variety of unique games which cannot be fully experienced on any other platform.

Abstract is free to attend but advance registration is required. Click here to apply for an Abstract pass - we hope to see you there!
